I hired someone who spoke, wrote and understood English relatively well. Was a university student studying information systems. Was eager to learn and work hard. And, because of technology, could seem like he was working just down the hall in the same building.
On the 2nd day, I noticed something. There was a lot more work done than what would be normal for the allocated 2 hours of work. I asked him about it. He told me he worked extra at no charge. I couldn’t believe it! I told him I couldn’t accept it and would pay him for that time. I payed him. But what he did spoke volumes.
I was sold on Fredrick and I was sold on outsourcing to the Philippines. We didn’t even get through the 1-week trial. I asked Fredrick if we could increase his work hours.
And then I asked Fredrick if he has friends or classmates that were interested in working with us as well. If they were anything like him, we could really grow this company. Fredrick introduced me to more of his friends. Me and Aubrey were so excited to be working with smart, eager, driven, tech-savvy, university students from the Philippines.
Our global workforce was growing!
